Amy K Melson
Somatic Coach
I'm a Certified Somatic Coach living in London. I have two little children, and we spend a lot of time in Epping Forest searching for good climbing trees.
I found somatics right after I had my first baby. It slowly shifted the question I asked myself from "I can't cope, why am I like this?" to "how do I want this to be?".
Somatics offered me a way back into my own body, after years of living mostly in my head, cycling through the same thought loops. I stopped searching for advice and reassurance from other people, and prioritised a slower, less-than-perfect process of becoming more of myself.
I learned that the things I was most ashamed of also held the ingredients I needed to feel whole. I discovered the joy and challenge of trusting myself and practicing showing up as me, again and again.
One of the biggest moves I made in this process was training as a coach with the Strozzi Institute (Washington DC programme). That decision now lets me do work I love: supporting people who are leading change in their lives and in the world, and who long to bring more of themselves into it too.
I mainly coach people leading change across Europe and Central Asia, many are navigating sudden, life-altering change: displacement, exile, climate crisis, abrupt funding cuts. My experience and somatic training means I can sit with the full range of what they’re carrying as they work out what leading looks like now, in a world that keeps shifting under everyone’s feet.
What people say
Career clarity
"Amy has an unusual level of innate emotional intelligence, and great sensitivity. I totally underestimated just how many rocks this process turned around in me.. I am gobsmacked by the depth and weight Amy brings to coaching."
Gerd Pircher, CEO HSBC Italy
Freedom from rumination
“I think that the biggest thing coaching gave me was working through my anxiety, not silencing it, not keeping it and pushing under, but changing my relationship with the anxious thoughts that used to run my day-to-day.”
Ismail Karypov, Environment Consultant, Kyrgyzstan
Connection to purpose
“I was encouraged to bring my whole self into this process which gave me freedom and a sense of safety to truly show up as me in the sessions. With somatic practices it felt like we were working at a much deeper level than a typical coaching conversation.
I experienced a fundamental shift through this process, it unlocked something very deep for me.”
Reb Kelly, Learning and Development Manager
